But not on schedule, and not in synch with the rest of the cycles. Things have gone like this so far:

A Leveller (B) is born in the west and tries futilly to stop the Light. B dies, and A (Tireces) disappears soon thereafter. A thousand years of light (the Second Era, the Age of Reason) ensue.

A comet rises in the east. The Great Hero (A, Tireces) from a thousand years prior arises in the east as the Leveller (Moagim), and proceeds to lay waste to the lands of men. A Great Hero (B) is born in the west and tries futilly to stop the Dark. B dies, and A (Moagim) dies soon thereafter. A thousand years of dark (the Third Era, the Wind Age) ensue.

So, if you look at the above pattern, the current cycle should read like this:

A comet rises in the east. Sixty years of light ensue, punctuated by a year of dark, and then more light...
See? Most of it is completely out of wack, and what is in wack is backwards. The only things that are right are that Balor, once Connacht, the "B" spirit, came from the east as the Leveller, and Alric, a new guy, the "A" spirit, came from the west as the Great Hero. The rest is all wrong. Alric should have died 50 years before TFL, and Balor soon thereafter. Even the COMET was late! I can understand humans messing up the cycle, but why are the heavenly bodies even wrong?

Nope. The Leveller is the spiritual incarnation of evil, unbalance. (It's not chaos; Balor was very orderly. I can tell you more about the order/chaos and balance/unbalance thing, including its relationship to geography, if you like). What purpose that evil serves is beyond us, though SiliconDream had a theory...
