: The Ibis crown is real. "Its wearer, if a mage, can
: cast Fear, Bravery, Berserker, Daze, Sleep, Peacefull
: Sleep, Madness, Nightmare, Loyalty, Charm, Emotion
: Control, or Suggestion, all benefiting from the crow's
: four levels of Power and all at skill 20."
: (that's a lot, in GURPS terms) "Any wearer will
: enjoy a +2 IQ up to a max of IQ 17. A Conceal Magic-20
: spell gives any mage -10 to detect the crown's magical
: powers. The crown also has other powers, kept secret
: by the state." In other words, it gives the
: wearer Steve Jobs' patented Reality Distortion Field.
Cool. We didn't see Alric having any of the above, though.
Or maybe he did, and everyone else was put under the
Suggestion dream so as not to realise it.
: The cycle is broken, unless Alric dies real soon now, and
: even then it's rather fux0red. Balor was supposed to
: defeat Alric and crush the light at the same time that
: he razed Muirthemne, then died himself; and the comet
: should have appeared 50 years earlier to herald HIS
: arrival. Instead, it took 50 years for him to finally
: crush the Light, but then the Head showed up and
: turned the tables. Alric killed Balor and survived,
: the era has become one of Light instead of Dark, and
: the comet was 50 years late. Soulblighter, if
: anything, was trying to set the cycle straight. If
: Alric dies soon and this becomes an era of Dark, then
: the cycle is back on track, but thus far it has been
: fux0red and nothing can change that.
I'm a bit confused by this. The MythII Epilogue says that
the cycle may have been broken because of Soulblighter's
actions in trying to _force_ the cycle - not because he
failed to restore it. The implication throughout the
epilogue is that they expected the dark to return in a
thousand years, but that Soulblighter tried it on too early.
You get the feeling that he was supposed to have waited
out the millenium, and then he would be the leveller.
But if what you say above is true, the cycle was already
broken when Balor was defeated, because the current age
should be a dark one - instead its light.
So I suppose my question is, does the failure of the
leveller or hero break the cycle, or just postpone it?
