The reason Balor didn't want the FG on his side was because they probably wouldn't have come. Think about it, what are the FG, protectors of the forerst... what is Balor, the leveller. Balor seems quite cheerful about smashing villages into pulp, burning farmland and sacking cities, who's to say he wouldn't have done the same to Forest Heart if he had the chance. Also, the Trow were alreaady on his side (becasue of a debt they owed him I believe....) and the FG _HATE_ the trow, so "an enemy of my enemy is my friend," hence thier alliegance with the Light...
