: true... you have a point there, but the fact that all
: trow knew and respected him means that he must have
: had an impact on the Trow populace as a whole, not
: just one or two generals.
It wouldn't take much more than that for the Deceiver's reputation to get around--the Trow in M2:SB didn't all have to know him personally, they just needed to have heard of him, and if he had done something truly steeped in "furor poeticus" the story would have spread. All the cultures in Myth are largely oral, which means that their news and information spreads by stories told around campfires. It's a great way for legends (and rumors) to spread quickly.
: actually i don't think that they did, remember how Balor
: (in his hero form) broke thier power and antombed them
: into thier own cities by melting the ice around them?
: Balor brought them back, but i belive that that was
: nearly at the end of the war, Bargrada was the first
: time you saw them. Trow are pretty hard to forget and
: I think that if the legion or the empire (muirthenme
: before it was pasted) had seen them, word would have
: gotten around.
I completely agreee with you here--except for the bit about the ice. Is this something from GURPS? All I remember was that Connacht buried them beneath their cities of iron; I don't recall there being a lot of ice around Rhiannon.
: I knew that the trow could leave thier lands, after all,
: how could they get to Bagrada and Muirthenme (in
: MythII) if they were stuck in the twelve duns?
: However, there _were_ pretty spread out in TFL and
: there were never more that 3 or 4 around at a time...
: so how could the deciever had affected them all?
See above, but also there were a lot more of them in Rhiannon (try entering the "forbidden" areas in "pools of iron" or whichever level it was--about twenty trow will come out and mop the floor with you), and we know the Deceiver was active in that area for at least a while after the return of the Trow. After all, it was Myrdred who held Alric captive, and while no Trow appear in the Five Champions level, the part of the Barrier indicated in that level's pregame is pretty much dead smack in the Trow lands. They would certainly have heard tales of his fights with the Watcher and of how he bested Alric (hence their unwillingness to deal directly with Alric, only with the Deceiver--the Trow respect cunning and intelligence over magic or swords).
