am i the only one on earth that thinks that MAYBE this isnt that bad a thing?
lemmie just say that i agree that microsoft is a bunch of wh00rs who couldnt put out an origional product if their life depended on it, and relys on eating smaller inovative companys(ie Bungie) to make their living.
when i first found out that bungie did indeed get eaten for lunch by the beast, i had a small seizure, and didnt wake up until the next day. after that, i thought about it, read all the info and opinions about it, and came to this conclusion: microsoft might suck, but bungie is still okay in my book.
lets look at the facts.
bungie is now a part of microsoft.
bungie will remain and work independently of the rest of microsoft.
bungie will decide what the work on, when they work on it, and for what platform they make it for.
the microsoft juggernaught will be in charge of distribution and propaganda- i mean advertising for all of bungies products.
the people at bungie are under no contract prohibiting them from leaving at will.
take two now owns all rights to myth, and will now distribute the products and create any possible sequels.
ok, so think about it. for now at least, bungie is still bungie, just with more money and resources and power. im sure that eventualy, microsoft will try to force bungie to submit to its will utterly. but at that point, im positive that most if not all of the bungie employees would leave the company, and microsoft would be left hangin in the wind with nothing but the bungie logo to show for it.
microsoft might be dumb, but they arnt stupid. they know that bungie can only make awesome games if they STAY bungie. take away bungies culture and style, and you take away everything that makes them cool. this wouldnt make any sense for microsoft from a finantial standpoint, so i think bungie is safe from the evil empires influence.
the one thing that bothers me is the fact that bungie no longer controls myth. take two might make a myth3, and who knows, it might even be fun. but this is like george lucas giving away the rights of starwars to another director. they could make more movies, and they might be good movies, but it simply wont be the same.
now lets look at the upside. bungie will have access to the entirety of microsofts power. we could be seeing sweet things like bungie tv comercials, and they would reach a much larger audience then just the macintosh underground and a handful of peecee fans.
also, they will have a direct influence in the creation of the x-box. personaly i dont plan on buying an xbox, and i think its gonna be suck. but if ANYONE can make the xbox NOT suck, its bungie. only time will tell what happens there, but ya never know.
in short, i think that as long as bungie remains true to itself and to the community, itll still rock. the second it becomes a TRUE part of microsoft is the second i stop buying their games.
