I had always thought that the forest giants weren't in Myth II because they're very peaceful and they don't like being involved in wars. If you remember the Myth TFL credits, there is one picture that shows a forest giant with a bunch of dead myrms and stuff at his feet, looking down at his hands in a way that implies "What have I done? These hands! These dirty hands!" They might have also not been in Myth II because they didn't want to fight alongside the Trow.
