In Response To: Re: Musings on "Tales From Myth TFL" (Forrest)

: He does.

Right, I missed it somehow when I looked before. Sorry.

: Heh. Yeah, I agree that Shiver most likely is
: Bonesplitter, queen of the Myrmidons. Though how she
: came to be a sorceress in a warrior culture is beyond
: me.

Maybe all the women fought with magic, or maybe she didn't acquire any magical skills until Balor recruited her. Just guessing.

: Hrm... defeated by vanity. Yes, both Moagim and Shiver
: commanded a good deal of Myrkridia, and Shiver likely
: also managed the Myrmidons. But then why can
: Soulblighter command Myrkridia as well? And the other
: Fallen certainly didn't mind using Myrkridia.

Ah, but you couldn't see the deep inner doubt gnawing at Soulblighter every time he issued an order. Poor lad, he knew that no matter how hard he tried, he could never be as pointlessly vicious as the hairy cannibals under his command. Yes, I know the vanity connection's a tenuous one.
I just suggested it as an alternative to the "Moagim is The Head" connection.

: Indeed, THAT would be a cool unit. Though awfully
: powerfull. What would you use to counter it? He could
: cut Soulblighter or Alric right in half with one blow.
: Only a super-armored Leveller-powered magician like
: Balor would be able to take one of them on - and two
: would overwhelm even him!

Well, Avatara and Fallen Lords are magically tough, and even a Trow-driven sword might not cut them in half. This Trow got lucky, in that everyone's necks were lined up along his slash. Plus a sword like that would be hard to swing at close distances. If enemy forces got in past it, he'd have to switch to punches and kicks.

: I posted this theory a little while back. I think Nyx is
: the creator of all, building the world; Wyrd is the
: protector of life, uplifting the spirits of his
: disciples and smiting unwelcome aliens; and the
: Leveller is the destroyer, seeking only chaos and
: conflict. Wyrd and the Leveller alternate power every
: 500 years, and Nyx... just kinda sits there. I dunno.
: What does Brahma do in modern times, according to
: Hindism?

From what I've heard he just hangs around chatting with the other gods and offering them advice. But my knowledge of Hinduism is even less reliable than my knowledge of the traditional cuisine of Tasmania (for instance). Hey, any Hindu Myth players out there?

: Indeed, I wondered about that myself. Perhaps the Oghres
: were something like Zebras - a basic lumpy-humanoid
: body form, but with distinctive teeth, claws, and
: horns on each individual, like a Zebra's stripes.

"Oghres are something like zebras." I like that. I'll have to use that sentence when I get a chance. I notice that in the final big battle scene, the Oghres all have the same body type. Perhaps they had different castes for different purposes, like bees, and this is the warrior caste? I'm inclined to think they're different species, though. The fact that the singular "Man" is contrasted with the plural "His cousins, the Oghres" suggests to me that the Oghres are all the earlier races. Oh, and could the Mauls be a race of Oghres, who fled from the Trow to the east? They're about the right size, and a lot of the Fear tags for Mauls call them "ogres" instead. I know they don't look very much alike in the finished game and comic, but perhaps they were originally intended to be related.

: Yes, I did think about this. The only hole in that theory
: is that there was a million-year period of peace. Did
: the gods just give up with the cycles after the Trow
: routinely kicked the asses of everything that was
: thrown at them? Then decided to start a new
: experiment, with the younger races?

Does it actually say a million years somewhere? In the comic it just says an "aeon."

: I wonder if the Trow were around for 6,000 years before
: their enemies started to appear, then fought against
: those enemies on and off for another 6,000 years.
: Because the younger races have been around for 12,000
: years, and the Leveller has been messing with them for
: at least 6,000 years.
: So the cycle could be, create race(s), wait 6,000 years
: for them to develop, then start playing with them with
: cycles of light and dark for 6,000 years - then wait a
: million years before starting over again with
: (an)other race(s)

If you're basing your estimate of the age of the younger races on the period of slavery of the Oghres, I should point out that they were enslaved for twelve centuries, not twelve millennia; only 1200 years. This means that the human Leveler cycle had already begun thousands of years before the Trow enslaved the Oghres. I think the solution to the "aeon of peace" may simply be that the younger races were created at a distance from the Trow (maybe because the gods knew about the Trow tendency to stomp on anyone who even looked like they were thinking about invading) and the Leveler immediately stopped messing with the Trow and went and messed with the younger races instead. But the Trow didn't know about the younger races until they came into contact millennia later; all they knew was that they had suddenly entered an era of peace.

If we do have to wait a million years for the Leveler to come again, Myth 3 through Myth 10,000 are going to be damn boring.

: Either Mugen or Maeldun had a pointy hood, but it didn't
: hide his face and wasn't tattered like the buy behind
: Connacht. Also, the Summoner was hooded, with his face
: hidden, but it likewise wasn't tattered.

Smeagol suggests he's the Faceless One back when he was good. I like this idea. Only one unidentified Fallen Lord to go!
