: You've heard my argument for this before: Mazzarin was an
: ungodly powerful mage in the middle of an era, as was
: the Summoner. Neither of them seem to quite fit in
: with normal things. It's been over a thousand years
: since Mazzarin's death, and GURPS mentions how
: Mythworlders doubt such a powerful man could stay dead
: for long.
: So, this thread got exactly three posts before: my
: initial post, someone saying they disagreed, and me
: asking why. I expect more than that this time!
Well, ok. First, it seems a little...um...contrived (unlike any of MY theories, of course). Kinda like the Head = Moagim theory--pick a famous powerful guy from the past and equate him with a famous powerful guy in the present. What reason is there to identify the Summoner with Mazzarin? Sure, they were both powerful mages in the middle of eras (well, actually, the Summoner's very close to the beginning of his era), but so is everyone else except the Champions. Mazzarin was the most powerful good archmage in known history (except for the Champions) who captained the magical forces of Light during a Dark Age. The Summoner's a second-rate bad guy with two known powers--teleportation (within the Tain, at least) and Krid resurrection. I really don't see the connection.
Further, Mazzarin was said to be able to turn to a page near his own destiny in the Total Codex. If his destiny was to become the Summoner, he'd have learned a lot about the early Sword Age which, presumably, he would have told to the rest of the Nine.
This ain't proof that Mazzarin *isn't* the Summoner; I just think you need to make the evidence that he is more clear. You can do it! I believe in you!
