I think regardless of what the real meaning of reclaim is, Bungie meant the same thing I argued, otherwise, things don't make sense.
I think the problem here is the definition of posession. If something is yours by birthright, you can consider it yours, in the sense that it's your right, not your posession necessarily. In this context, you could argue that Alric was not exactly reclaiming the throne, but his right to it, and sentence is slightly metaphorical.
