Well of course we say that it doesn't suck the world inside out, because it's a magical black hole. heh
Actually the earth would be shrunk again and again infinitely if it were sucked in, like anything which fell victem to it. It would becoming smaller & smaller for eternity. Yet there is evidence to support the idea for exploding black holes - of course like all Black Hole Theory it is speculative.
As for it being impossible to see, black holes are black, space is black. If you see a hole in the road, you know the hole is there because of the rest of the road, not because of the hole itself. Similarly, you know the great devoid is there becasue of the surrounding land, not because of the devoid.
But yeah, I am drawing a long bow.
