: I have four comments to make about this thread.
: (1) The Asylum is a forum for debate. One cannot simply
: make a post and then unilaterally declare one's
: opinion undebatable.
I just wasnt expecting any debate, thats all. Its such an obvious thing that there's nothing really to argue about.
If I had an opinion that two rational people could logically disagree on, I would agree with you.
: (2) It is our job to deal with and attempt to explain
: contradictions, not merely to say "that's it,
: that's a contradiction, case closed."
Look, this is a TOTALLY TRIVIAL THING. There is nothing really to debate or explain, I just thought it would be interesting to point it out.
: (3) Quibbles over the semantics of words in quotes do not
: tend to lend themselves to profound and ultimately
: fruitful debate.
Exactly :P
So why are we debating at all? It is not profound, it reveals nothing.
: (4) I think that Ares is right, there is a contradiction
: in the literal interpretations of the words of those
: sources. I would conclude upon further analysis that
: the Myth II introduction is the weakest source, and
: that either the legend the child knew was inaccurate,
: or it was merely making the point that when Alric was
: slogging through the Dire Marsh, he probably wasn't as
: regal and kingly as when he sat on the throne of his
: nation. I am not, however, content to say "OK,
: that's a contradiction" and defy any attempt to
: explain it.
Uhm... Thats not what I was doing. I DID explain it, saying basically the same thing as you are saying now, in previous posts.
