In Response To: Re: Uhm... (SiliconDream =PN=)

: Uh, no. It's in the journal entries. It says that Mauriac
: was prince regent at the time--a regent is a
: substitute ruler when no member of the royal family is
: currently capable of ruling. So there must not have
: been a genuine king then.

You are wrong because: 19. Reaching Bizarre Conclusions Without Any Information (Example: The car won't start. Therefore, I'm sure the spark plugs have been stolen by rogue clowns)

The most obvious and logical thing that everyone thinks of when they hear that Mauriac was the regent is that the King is dead and Alric is next in line to succede, but it too young. How can you draw from this information anything about Covenant being the capital or not?? This is totally irrelevant, and I KNOW what a regent is :P

: Um...Alric's family escaped from Covenant, so I think I
: can assume they were living there beforehand and not
: just vacationing or something.

EXACTLY.

: But that supports me. You said that they DID have a
: reason to move to Madrigal, therefore the fact that
: they DIDN'T move there before the war shows that
: Covenant must have had some special significance that
: outweighed that reason--it must have been the capital,
: in fact. I'm saying that they had no pressing reason
: to move to Madrigal yet, so it's not surprising that
: they didn't move there even though it was the capital.

Actually, it does *NOT* support you AT ALL. You are wrong because: 21. Failure to Recognize What's Important (Example: My house is on fire! Quick, call the post office and tell them to hold my mail!)

You are trying to say that because they had no reason to go to Madrigal.

EXACTLY.

Why WOULD they go to Madrigal if it wasn't the capital?

: Ares, Ares, Ares. I said the royal family lived in
: Covenant. You are aware, are you not, that many royal
: families do not live in the capitals of their
: countries? I don't know enough about it to say that
: the *majority* of royal families don't, but I know
: that quite a few don't. For most members of the
: British royal family, for instance, London is not
: their primary place of residence. The royals in any
: country choose their capitals out of political and
: economic necessity, but they choose their family
: residence to be in a pleasant place to live. I'd
: imagine that Covenant, being on the southern coast,
: has a more hospitable climate than Madrigal--but I
: don't need to get into this. Capital != home of royal
: family, and so GURPS and the Myth games can be
: reconciled.

You are wrong because (whew, this list will be very long)

7. Argument by Bizarre Definition (Example: He's not a criminal, he just does things that are against the law)

8. Total Logical Disconnect (Example: I enjoy pasta because my house is made of bricks)

14. Irrelevant Comparisons (Example: A hundred dollars is a good price for a toaster, compared to buying a Ferrari)

32. Proof by Lack of Evidence (Example: I've never seen you drunk, so you must be one of those Amish people)

"Countries choose their capitals out of political necessecity, and their residences as pleasant places to live. Therefore, I'm sure that during a time of war, the royal family would be vacationing in their summer home, which is currently being ravaged by the Undead!"

Once you see the absurdity of your argument, doesn't it fit a lot better when COVENANT is the capital?

P.S. The list of "Why You're Wrong" is in "The Joy of Work" by Scott Adams.

P.P.S. Is anyone here supporting you?
