Well noticed! There is also a picture of this in the introduction to "The Ibis Crown"... I still hold, however, that this armour is The Magic Armour... he just found it way before Alric, before he took Muirthemne. (That makes The Head a bit out-of-touch with the 'Current' location of artefacts, and lessens its credibility somewhat.) Maybe Balor knew that someone else would go looking for it, and so left a suitable trap in place... which Alric fell into.
