: The Head did not start a civil war. He sent Alric to grab
: some magic armor from the desert, and for whatever
: reason Alric ran into Balor and felt betrayed. Then
: the Nine "found out" that the Head had been
: double-crossing them (whether it really was, or was
: simply acting without regard to mortal life). A whole
: bunch of people rose to the Head's defense (the Nine
: started it!), and a civil war broke out. It's not like
: the Head just said "OK you stupid zombies, go
: kill two of the Nine!". He had good prompting to
: defend himself, if he was even influencing his
: defenders at all.
The problem with this is that we are only told that the haed had been betraying the nine all along, with no hint as to what he did other than get Alric captured. It makes it hard to theorize. WIll the next person at Macworld or E3 or something try to squeeze Bungie guys for info? THey seem to be a lot more useful in person than over e-mail.
