Here's my take on it: the Head is a good guy. He is against the Leveller in general, because he decapitated him. Thus, he advises good guys against The Leveller. He advised Connacht, like he said: he also lost his to to Balor, in as much as Balor is the Leveller. Now he's helping Alric & co in TFL. Any damage done to the light could be accidental, or simply because the Head is a god (Segoth) and doesn't think mortal lives are really anything to worry about when there's a Leveller to be killed.
