Maybe no one knows a spell that would allow them to do that. Some areas of magic are less developed or less known than others. Take alric for example. We all know he's a very powrful archmage but who thinks he knows a spell to make a person cluck like a chicken? He doesn't know it 'cuz it was never made. Someone probably never made a spell to help sift through the Codex for a particular person's life
