Um...I dunno if you've looked up recently, but the apparently-stationary stuff like stars and planets *do* move across the sky, once every 24 hours. The world turns, remember? :-) In order to stay in one region of the sky permanently, the comet would have to approach in some weird (and impossible, without artificial aid) spiral orbit centered on the Mythworld, so that it swings around the world at the same angular rate as the world spins. Assuming real-world celestial mechanics applies, of course.
