In Response To: Theories of the Myrkridia (Sebek)

: I don't really have time to form a single coherent
: document, but here are some of the flavor texts that I
: created for the Myrkridia when I had a little too much
: free time on my hands...

: ìIt is said that the Myrkridia evolved from the long-dead
: half-reptile creatures which long ago became the
: ancestors of all of the mammalian forms of today.
: Perhaps that is why the sight of them evokes our most
: primal of ancestral fears.î

I don't recognise any reptillian features about them. They're incredibly hairy, and apparently hot-blooded, both mammalian features (ignoring the hot-blooded dinosaurs and the hairy little therapsids). Their big ears are soft and floppy, and I can't think of a single reptile with big, floppy ears like that (even early mammals on Earth had tiny stubs of ears just starting to grow in). They've got big fangs and claws, sure, but bears have claws like that, and I can imagine a mammal growing teeth like that. And then there's the behavior; they don't act like reptiles, who are only violent when they require food or their defensive posturing doesn't work against enemies. They act like advanced, almost sentient mammals with some serious psychosis, like abused chimps do.

: ìAncient, simple, elegant, and deadly, the Myrkridian
: body form is far more powerful than that of its
: mammalian descendants. Myrkridia are asexual, and
: reproductive individuals grow to a huge size matched
: only by their command of dark sorcery.î

Why would they be asexual if they were therapsids? They would be normal sexual creatures, I would think. Of course, I don't think they are therapids, so they could be asexual.

: ìFear of the Myrkridia, undisputed top predators for
: eons, runs deep in the collective souls of every
: intelligent race upon this world. They are
: terrifyingly old... older than the Dwarves, older than
: the Trow, older than the long-dead Callieach.î

Not true. The Trow were formed from stone and clay at the dawn of time by Nyx. Every thousand years or so, a new race would appear, and eventually be destroyed in their conflict with the Trow. The Callieach were one such race. Then, after an aeon of peace, the younger races appeared, including Humans, fir'Bolg, Dwarves, bre'Unor, and so on, along with the larger and now-exting Oghres; though races like Ghols, Forest Giants, Myrkridia, and other non-hominid species may or may not be "younger races" by the Trow definition. The Giants seemed to have been around when the Trow "poisoned the soul" of iron, using weapons forged from it to slay the Oghres.

: And here's some utter crap that I came up with just so
: I'd have an excuse to create a supermyrkridia (an
: "Archmyrkridia," named [poshumously and by
: humans] Treader of the Dawn) unit that could blow the
: bejesus out of anything else out there

[snip utter crap]

Agreed, 'twas utter crap :-)

Also, nobody's more powerfull than the Leveller, except maybe Nyx or Wyrd or another god like that. I wonder if Wyrd is behind the Great Heroes?

Hey, that's a theory... the holy trinity of Myth...

Nyx, at the dawn of time, created the world and with it the Trow, and every thousand years created another race. Only the Trow survived out of them. An aeon after the last primordial race was killed, Nyx created a new experiment, with the younger races. To rule over them would be Wyrd, the God of Light, to be worshipped by all the kind and good people; and the Leveller, a transient spirit seeking only conflict. These two alternate in their powers every five hundred years (a total cycle life of a thousand years), and the races of the world are torn between them. Who knows what it's final purpose of this big experiment is...

Nice theory, eh?
