In Response To: Re: A Mythsummer Night's Dream (SiliconDream)

: I thought "Age of Reason" might be a synonym
: for one of the other four ages, since it has a
: slightly different format from the other age titles.
: Or maybe Alric's reign in the Sword Age is
: sufficiently important that the previous ages/eras are
: lumped together as the "Four Ages."

: As I see it there have only been four Levelers so far.
: Tireces is the third and Balor is the fourth.

The problem is, the fourth Leveler described was destroyed by fire, as Balor certainly wasn't. If anything, Balor would have been the first, who was beheaded, but then how would we know about the next three who are yet to be? (And don't say the Codex). So there are four Levelers mentioned that we don't know of,

: I just figured if the Dwarven king was mentioned (in Myth
: II), then the fir'Bolg king would be too, if they had
: one.

Er... the fir'Bolg king was ou'Kahn. He and Caliban forged the truce between Humans and fir'Bolg.

: Also, the Fallen Lords go by titles which are
: obviously not true names (Soulblighter, The Deceiver,
: etc.) whereas the Nine and other Avatara have
: designations which seem much more like true names than
: titles ("Cu Roi," for instance, doesn't
: *mean* anything). So I think those *are* their true
: names. I also think "Caliban" is a rather
: unlikely name for a heroic wizard; in the tempest,
: Caliban was a brutish and not-too-smart monster.
: Perhaps Soulblighter didn't break the cycle, and when
: Alric's possessed by the Leveller he'll be reborn as
: Caliban? In the future, at the time the flavor texts
: are being written, they might know him better as the
: Leveler Caliban than as the good guy Alric.

Hrm... that's an interesting theory. Could be, though I'm still fairly sure it's an early name for Alric. Josh says so, and he was a beta tester.

: But Alric predates the Sword Age; Mazzarin died during
: the current Great War (since Tyr is in the West),

How do we know Mazzarin died at Tyr? We know The Watcher attacked Tyr, but is that where Mazzarin died?

: which has only been going for 16-17 years, and Alric's
: about 30 at war's end. And Mazzarin died in the Wind
: Age.

What!? The Wind Age ended 500+ years ago. Do you mean the Wolf Age, which was Balor's reign?

: So the Light ages would have to start not when
: the heroes were born but when they first rose to power
: and fought against the Dark, which seems a little
: weird to me.

I think that was the point I was pushing, that Heroes arise when they start fighting the Dark.

: P.S. From a Cortana message: "Unexpected contact
: with indigenous human
: populations on four "lost colony"
: worlds..."

: Now is that an invitation to Myth/Marathon/Halo general
: theories or what?

I saw that on the Story page, and searched my copies of Myth (different versions) and the Myth TFL CD, and ditto for Myth II stuff, and couldn't find any of that. I have the 1.0 TFL CD and 1.1 Myth II CD, and all the updates. Is it on yours?

As for the indigenous peoples, it certainly does seem to invite Myth connections. Though the more recent Halo info seems to have no mention of the Pfhor or any of their client races, as it includes ponderings on whether humanity is alone in the universe.

Perhaps the timeline changes in Infinity prevented the rest of humanity from even hearing of the Pfhor, with Tfear's contemplations in the Infinity manual of changing their old ways, thus not neccesitating the war with humanity, and Blake and his crew not neccesarily returning to Earth. But then where did Durandal go?
