I think the opposite. Having this control orientented behavior while growing up would explain Alric's rebelious tendencies. When someone is forced to something they come to resent it. Alric fits in here quite well.

I have the deepest respect for both of your ideas. You both make some great points. That's really all i had to say, its the only thing that jumped out at me.
