: I'd have no problem at all of they called it The Myth
: Book, and that would be totally different. I have no
: interest whatsoever in gurps. I don't have any
: interest in fantasy RPG. I do not want to spend my
: money on a gurps game. I think gurps is boring. I dont
: play gurps, I dont like gurps, I dont want to be
: involved in gurps. Comprendé?
You don't have to be involved in GURPS. Just be aware that you're crippling yourself with respect to Myth story research. I wasn't incredibly wowed by the art/writing of the TFL comic, but I downloaded it anyway (and I would have bought it, and will, if I rack up enough Bungie points) for the insights it gave me into the plot.
: I DO have an interest in Myth. I would buy a book that
: Bungie published to further the Myth story. This is
: not that book - the primary goal of this book (which
: was not published by Bungie AFAIK) is to play a game
: that I don't like - it is based on the Myth series,
: but the guy who wrote it is more talented in writing
: fiction than playing Myth and digging up facts from
: the information in the story. I'll have to hand it to
: him for dreaming up Segoth though. I wonder where he
: pulled that from.
Conceivably, he asked the guys at Bungie and they told him.
: Anyway, I'm sure many of you are familiar with basic
: philosophy. If reality exists only in our minds, blah,
: blah, blah, then a story that can commonly unite minds
: together can be considered true. I don't know how many
: Myth players purchased gurps and made the connection
: with The Head and Segoth (not a damn lot I bet - most
: of their sales probably came from gurps players and
: not Myth players) but when Creation releases the
: Shadows / Whispers levelpack, I'm sure the thousands
: that download it and read in it that the head is
: Moagim will rival that number >;)~
Unfortunately, there are many thousands more Bungie fans who didn't pay much attention to the story, and probably believed the Head when he said he was an old adviser to Connacht. So that's the truth by your criterion. :-)
Look, it's easy to get us to believe that The Head might be Moagim. Just email Bungie and ask them to drop a note on the b.net site to the effect of "We consider Creation's maps to provide great insight into the Myth universe. Anyone who wants to know more about the storyline of Myth should download these maps and extract the information they provide." Then we'll go "Wow, Shadows and Whispers are part of official Bungie continuity! We'd better admit that Ares was right and send him large sums of money!" Won't that be nice?
