In Response To: Re: Why Moagim = the Head and gurps is wrong! (Forrest)

[stuff snipped all the way through; casual reader be warned]

: Actually, the center of the Myth world as we know it is
: Tharsis. And yes I'm sure, I've measured.

It seems to me that any left-behind bits would have been buried at Ileum, since that's where the horses left from. If you were aiming for maximum separation and all.

: We only know of two Leveller who were certainly beheaded
: - the guy Tireces killed, and Balor. Then there's
: Moagim and the guy Connacht killed (so-called
: "Moagim Reborn"). I don't have any problem
: with the idea that all Levellers are beheaded, I just
: don't think the Head is simply some ex-Leveller - his
: actions suggest a much more complex motive than just
: destruction or conquest. He's a double-crossing
: sumbitch who seems to know something about everything
: - the former could maybe make sense for an evil maniac
: who was killed by the reigning evil maniac, but the
: latter makes much more sense for a god.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that not all Levellers are beheaded. From the phrasing of the Myth2 epilogue, I think the narrator is describing there how each Leveller was *killed,* not just how their bodies were disposed of. Which means the fourth-era Leveller, the one whose "body was destroyed by fire," was incinerated before he could be decapitated. Whoa, that was almost a poem.

: GURPS doesn't even say The Head IS Segoth - they just say
: that Segoth is now a living, talking head. All they
: say about the Head is what we already know - he's a
: living, talking Head who had a role in the Great War.
: The obvious connection is left as an exercise for the
: reader.

And it clearly gives us an alternate route, of viewing the Head as a more mundane undead creature, if we wish. Heck, it could even be *Moagim's* preserved head without contradicting with GURPS. Which makes attacking GURPS on this matter kinda pointless.

: The clues Bungie left as to the identity of the Head
: point in a vague direction off the map of our
: knowledge.

Yeah, one needs to distinguish between "It's very likely that The Head is Moagim" and "It's more likely that The Head is Moagim than anyone else we know about at the moment." The latter conclusion (which is all you could hope to prove given the pre-GURPS data we had) can be overturned at any moment by even a small amount of new data. Not that I ever believed either statement, with my little "Head is Thoth" theory. :-)
