: When are you people going to realize how invalid this
: GURPS crud is? I mean c'mon. Is there ANYTHING in the
: game or Bungie documentation to back up that statement
: that Alric should have died?

Sure. The Jman's characterization of the cycle in the epilogue. There's supposed to be a thousand years of Dark rule, then a thousand years of Light--but at least half the continent only suffered Balor's attacks for 120 years or so. That means the Dark should rule for at least another 900 years. Which means Alric should have died.

: The cycle makes perfect sense still. Tireces slays the
: Leveller, disappears, returns as Moagim... Connacht
: arises, slays Moagim, disappears, returns as Balor.
: Alric rises, slays Balor... now he just needs to
: disappear and return as the Leveller.

Again, it's the timing that's suspect. Tireces slays the Leveller, disappears, returns as Moagim...and A THOUSAND YEARS LATER Connacht arises, slays Moagim, gets rid of the Myrks, disappears, returns as Balor. If Alric was the next Great Hero, he shouldn't have appeared yet!

: GURPS got confused because of the statement at the end of
: the game that "it is even conceivable that
: because of [Soulblighter's] actions, the cycle has
: been broken" or something, which is crap and a
: half - the narrator didn't understand the cycle and
: didn't know what he was talking about.

The narrator wasn't just expressing his own opinions, though...he was expressing those of the Jman, who's presumably a pretty knowledgeable guy.

: The Watcher
: minicycle is the same as the Soulblighter minicycle -
: Remember? After Moagim's defeat, Connacht had to deal
: with The Watcher and trap him in the cloudspine with
: the confinement dream. Now, after Balor's defeat,
: Alric has to deal with Soulblighter and trap him in
: molten lava (kill him even mb). So in the next cycle,
: Alric is the leveller, Soulblighter is a Fallen Lord
: (again) if he survived (like the Watcher was a Fallen
: Lord for two cycles in a row) and Soulblighter will
: die in the next cycle (like The Watcher did) etc.

I don't think Soulblighter was trapped by the lava--he was set on fire and died. That little cutscene seemed to me to be showing his body being eaten away (which could either be death or--as some people think--him turning into crows and escaping), not showing him being sucked down into the lava.

Further, Soulblighter's attack was *much* more serious than the Watcher's. Soulblighter very nearly brought down the Light for good, and practically destroyed the world; the Watcher simply fought an archmage or two and didn't come anywhere near (as far as we know) global destruction or even toppling the Cath Bruig, the focal point of Light power at the time.

: Now I know it doesnt happen exactly the same every time,
: but I'm demonstrating that it CAN - the cycle has been
: broken? Not a chance.

GURPS takes pains to point out that it's *not* basing its claim of a broken cycle on Soulblighter's actions, though. Those are just the effect of the greater abnormality of the Dark's losing the Great War. I really don't think the Bungie guy's just overlooked this.
