Not even. The Great Cycle seems to have little or nothing to do with the living vs. dead, except that the Leveller often plans to kill everyone off. Sometimes the Dark uses undead, sometimes it doesn't. And he should have known about the cycle anyway, ancient Heron Guard that he was.
