: Can you explain the evidence for the age sequence? I
: personally thought it went: Axe, Sword, Wolf, Wind,
: with the first half of each age ruled by Light and the
: second half ruled by Dark. This is based on the fact
: that Mazzarin died in the Wind Age, but Alric
: remembers when Mazzarin was alive, and Alric's only
: thirty-something in the Great War, so the Wind Age
: must extend from Connacht's rise to Balor's death.
: Also, it's implied that The Deceiver is over a
: thousand years old, which makes the Wolf Age
: pre-Connacht.
The Axe Age is when the Free Cities of the North were first settled. The Sword Age is when the truce between the Humans and fir'Bolg was forged. The Wolf Age is when Myrdred was an Avatara. The Wind Age is when Connacht reigned. And you all seem to be overlooking the Age of Reason, when Tireces reigned.
So, lets put this info together to try and get some sort of order.
The fir'Bolg were enemies of the Light when the Free Cities were settled, putting the Axe Age before the Sword Age. The truce between Humans and fir'Bolg was forged during the Sword Age by Caliban and ou'Kahn, and according to Josh Noel (former maintainer of the Myth's Story Page and Myth:TFL beta tester), Caliban is the beta name of Alric, and as Alric is fairly young in Myth:TFL, that makes the Sword Age the current age.
So, now we know that the Sword Age is the current age, putting the Axe Age, the Wolf Age, the Wind Age, and the Age of Reason, before it. But in what order did the Axe, Wolf, Wind, and Reason ages go?
The Age of Reason was ended when Tireces became Moagim. Since Connacht killed Moagim and began the Wind Age, we know that the Age of Reason was before the Wind Age.
So, now we know the Age of Reason was before the Wind Age, and everything was before the Sword Age. But what about the Wolf and Axe ages?
The Free Cities of the North were settled in the Axe Age. Chances are people wouldn't be settling new territories in a dark age, making the Axe Age most likely an age of light. We know the Age of Reason, Wind Age, and Axe Age were all Light ages, meaning that the Axe Age must have been before the Age of Reason.
So, now we can begin to construct something of a chart:
Fourth Era:
Axe Age (Light), ??? (Dark)
Fifth Era:
Age of Reason (Light), ??? (Dark)
Sixth Era:
Wind Age (Light), ??? (Dark)
Seventh Era:
Sword Age (Light), ??? (Dark)
Now, where does the Wolf Age fit into here? Myrdred was an Avatara then, and he doesn't seem to be THAT old (though it is implied that be *may* be over a thousand years old), meaning that it's unlikely to be before the Age of Reason. Thus, it isn't the Light age of the Third Era, and most likely not the Dark age of the Fourth Era. The Dark Age of the Seventh Era hasn't come yet, leaving us back at square one: was the Wolf Age just before or just after the Wind Age? The implication that Myrdred is over a thousand years old would seem to imply the former, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I've forgotten the proof the the Wolf Age was when Balor reigned.
