Mazzarin lived back during the Wind Age. He was the post powerfull avatara of all time. Only after an ambush by the Watcher involving seven massive waves of Thrall and then the Watcher himself, did he finally die. But before he died he founded the Nine (aka the Avatara), and invented lots of magic things that Connacht later used.

The only loose end here is the shade named Mazzarin on The Watcher...
