Mazzarin died before Connacht showed up which was a long time ago
As we know, the Watcher was around back then and kicked the shit out of him and brought him back as a shade
pretty nifty
and according to GURPS Bahl'al the Watcher never found the Dream of Unlife.. he just possesses the ability to make thrall and other undead guys as do the other fallen.
