: I remember way back when, when we madd the distinction
: between "age" and "era." One
: signified the 500 light years and the other signified
: the 1000 cycle, I think. And I think it's the wolf
: era, isn't it?
I think they're the same thing because there are both four ages, as seen from the flavor texts, and four eras, as seen in the Myth II epilogue. Unless they started counting ages later than eras for some reason. And it's the "Wolf Age," according to the "Through the Ermine" journal entry.
: Anyway, the sword age is the current age because the
: fir'bolg flavor text talks about Calliban forging an
: alliance with the fir'bolg. And Calliban is the beta
: name of Alric.
But they didn't change his name to "Alric" in the finished version. Doesn't that mean he's supposed to be a different person now? And ou'Kahn, the Great King of the fir'Bolg at the time of the alliance, is never mentioned in text concerning the present.
: Wind age is the age when Connacht arose. Of course, the
: Wolf era is when Balor arose. But if era signifies the
: 1000 year cycle, then The Deciever could be born in
: the first half of the cycle, meaning during the Wind
: age.
Inasmuch as the Wolf Age is an age, not an era, it has to come either before or after the Wind Age. If the Deceiver was born afterwards, it would conflict with the narrator's belief that he was over a thousand years old (although the narrator's knowledge about ancient history is obviously neither complete nor infallible). So I think Wolf came before Wind.
And it was a big ol' booboo on my part to suggest Myrdred was corrupted before Connacht arose. The journal makes it clear that, whatever age he was born in, he was turned to the Dark by Balor. Sorry about that.
: About Mazzarin and Sinas... It could be that Mazzarin
: (when he was a Shade) fought Sinas (as an avatara) and
: Mazzarin killed him, then somehow the Deciever brought
: him back as a Shade.
Could be, although resurrection as a Shade would probably be The Watcher's job. For various reasons I've posted elsewhere, though, I think the great avatara Mazzarin and the avatara-turned-into-Shade Mazzarin are different folks, and also that Sinis was already a bad guy before he died. I guess that's why you mentioned The Deceiver, though, so he could be resurrected and then corrupted.
I should point out that if the ages are each one half of the great cycle, then at the time of the Great War you're in the Dark age immediately after the Light Wind Age. So if TFL takes place during the Sword Age, as you suggest, then the Wolf Age must have come before Connacht. There's no room for any ages in between.
God, this'll be so much easier once Forrest gets the encyclopedia up. I won't even need to post here; I'll be able to crush my own theories without help from you guys.
