: But if we're throwing out GURPS, then there's no Moagim
: Reborn. So it would go: But then there's still the
: problem that Balor hasn't been ruling the past 500
: years! He just showed up 50 years ago (from TFL time)!
: Well, he'd been around for at least 300 years before
: that, subborning the Myrmidons, but he didn't make his
: grand entrance until 50 years ago.
: The only way I could explain such a thing would be that
: Connacht somehow DID break the cycle, and postponed
: his arrival as Balor until the dawn of a new Light
: Age, so that he would inevitably be killed soon
: thereafter. So the Wolf Age, unlike others, DID last a
: thousand years.
: But still, I think GURPS' explanation is a lot nicer and
: cleaner, and we don't have to throw out all the
: usefull information in it. And most of all, I DON'T
: HAVE TO REWRITE THE FSCKING ENCYCLOPEDIA!
Nah, just say he *did* rule for those 500 years. He was the principal power in the Mythworld, even if he hadn't reached the West yet (we dunno what great lands lie off in the East, even if the folk of the Province believe it's nothingness over there; mebbe the Cath Bruig is dwarfed by comparison.) The Dark doesn't rule *everything* during each Dark Age--it just rules lots, and its dominion steadily increases. Then, just before it's about to conquer the entire world, the Great Hero arises and beats it back. Then the Light enjoys 500 years of dominance--again, not controlling the whole world, but steadily increasing its area of control.
Anyway, this is irrelevant for me; I agree that Jason's comments are probably out-dated. My feeling on this is the same as on the issue of Myrdred's survival; no matter how off-base Gene Seabolt would have been by himself, if the Bungie error-checking guys are looking at *anything* they're looking at the huge issues like what the cycle is and which Fallen Lords are known to have survived. So I think GURPS has the big picture down correctly.
