That's true... it just seems to me that Maeldun would say "get me a boat to Leix" instead of "show me the way to Leix" if it were an island. To me, "way" implies a path or a land route, not an ocean course. Besides, if Leix were an island, what "way" would there be to show? "Well Maeldun, ya get on this boat, see, and then you sail it to this here island." If it were on land it would make more sense. "First you must traverse the Uncharted Lands, then the Rocks of Doom, then take a left at the Waterfall of the Gods," etc.
