In Response To: just a short point (duckyjo)

: Since this string about the codex seems to me as if it
: has reached it's point (some superhuman being wrote
: it, etc), I just wanted to point something out about
: your idea of time.

: I'm not sure if you know this yet, but if you ask many
: people about time, most will think of it as an
: infinitely branched line, or a mobius strip.

: The branched line (which is present in your post which I
: am responding to) represents the infinite
: possibilities of time based on decisions made by
: people. Me being on my computer at this instant as
: opposed to eating breakfast could trigger a multitude
: of effects that could lead to the end of the world
: twenty years from now. Well, maybe not, but you get
: the point? OK

: The Mobius strip (a completely one sided figure)
: represents fate. Basically what I was saying. What you
: do in your life is already set. What you think is free
: will is actually what you are destined to do. If you
: try to trick fate and change your mind all the time,
: that is actually what you were destined to do. You
: cannot escape it.

: The debates on wether time is a branched line or a mobius
: strip will continue for centuries, and probably will
: never come to an end. People can't comprehend the true
: nature of the universe, so the debates will continue.
: All of our talks about the codex will probably be
: affected by what time is actually like. Each person
: can decide for his or her self.
: But is that decision fated, or is it free will?

Well, this is an interesting subject. If the codex was written from a Mobius strip point of view, one(the author of the codex) would have to calculate for how the knowledge would affect a person. AIs can calculate that, and I quote

"I once boasted to be able to count all the atoms in a cloud, to understand them all, predict them, and so I predicted you..."

(That is just there to support the marathon/myth connection, and because quoting bungie makes any arguement better. :)

If it was written from a Branched line point of view, teh author wouldnt be able to be sure of the knowedge in hte book, for the first person to change anything because of it would change everything due to chaos thoery.(or the codex may change depending on what happens)

The question is...

does the codex say what should happen? (branched line)

or does it say what will happen? (mobius strip)

Or is it a bunch of BS put there by the gods(Artificial Rampant Inteligences, for you marathon/myth people) so they can manipulate pathetic humans/trow/mauls/mahir/fir'borlg/forrest giants/myrkridia/ghols/dwarves/ect.

"...The world may never know."
