Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure we're in substantial disagreement. I believe Myrdred served Connacht; I just don't think they were best buds. Can I prove this? No. But here's my reasoning.

We know Myrdred was an Avatara in the Wolf Age, the age of Connacht's rule. However, we also know (from GURPS, which, according to my validity-judgement rules, supersedes hearsay evidence given by the narrator) he battled and imprisoned the Watcher before Connacht ever ascended to prominence. And from the timing, it seems clear that Myrdred was fighting the Watcher at the same time as Mazzarin was fighting the Watcher. Which would suggest that Myrdred and Mazzarin were working together. Which would suggest that Myrdred was already an Avatara, perhaps even a founding member. So I don't think he was an old friend of Connacht's.

A couple of extra points against that being Myrdred in the TFL comic picture--

First, not all Avatara wore that outfit. In fact, it doesn't seem like there was any standard Avatara costume. A lot of them wore pointy hats, but to judge from Rabican's costume it certainly wasn't necessary. I doubt the big D would wear that just because he was an Avatara at the time; more likely he wore something pretty much like what he wears now. The other guys who've changed from Light to Dark, like Connacht and Damas, didn't make any drastic changes in their look. The guy in the comic does look like *an* Avatara, but I doubt he's Myrdred.

Second, the Trow really like Myrdred, and I doubt they'd be particularly affectionate toward him if he helped entomb them for a thousand years.

My personal chronicling of Myrdred's history is: He joined the Avatara during the Wind Age, and perhaps was a founding member. Based in Madrigal (according to GURPS), the Avatara mainly fought evil west of the Cloudspine, while the Cath Bruig sparred with the Krids in the center of the continent and people were generally miserable in the East. The Trow remained aloof from humanity, and Myrdred visited them occasionally for poetry slams. :-)

Shortly before Connacht arose in the East, the Watcher attacked the West and was imprisoned under the Cloudspine by Myrdred after killing Mazzarin. When the Dark attacked from the West, Connacht imprisoned the Trow and then attacked the Leveller himself. By now (after he'd taken care of the Trow), he was far enough west to formally meet and ally with the Avatara, and impressed the hell out of Myrdred. When he returned to Muirthemne to be emperor, Myrdred followed him and went with him a few years later when he exiled himself.

So basically, my only disagreement with you is on the finer points of when Myrdred and Connacht became friends.

But, as usual, this is an Asylum-level discussion and is far beyond definite proof/disproof of major issues. So feel free, in your scenario, to make Myrdred an old friend of Connacht who went with him to entomb the Trow. Whatever the truth may be, I think you're certainly close enough.
