Trow aren't strictly a race of the Light. They are much more mercenary, fighting on a side which gives a good reason. They seem to stay very much to themselves and only get in with the 'lesser' races whenever it suits them.
For the main questions, I refer you to a Forest Giant flavor text in Myt:TFL:
"When asked of the source of their animosity toward the Trow, all were silent. After a time, the eldest among them looked down and seemed to weep. 'It was they who poisoned the soul of iron'."
This means that the Forest Giants hated the Trow because they tookiron and used it as a weapon, which you will know now you have read Tales from Myth:TFL.
