Are you absolutely sure of this? I really hope not, since it'll will completely KIK one of the major plot points of my jman levels... but anyway, my feeling is that Myrdred was one of Connacht's big guns. What am I basing this on? Well, Myrdred was an avatara of the wolf age, so the timing is right. We know he's significantly associated with the Cath Bruig. Circumstantial evidence: Shiver to the D: "Will you bow before anyone who claims the throne of the Cath Bruig?" which obviously refers to Alric but seems to me to suggest that he had some kind of relationship with a previous emperor as well. And of course we know there's no problem with Balor recruiting Connacht's former associates, since that's where he got Soulblighter and, to a lesser degree, the Trow. Balor renamed Myrdred the Deceiver, but this doesn't necessarily mean that Connacht didn't have him around as Myrdred.
If you have some concrete evidence that the D was not Connacht's best friend, please please please please let me know since it will involve some major re-writing. I've stopped being so obsessive about my plot details, but this is the whole point of one of my levels and I would really prefer not to have it be a fault of my inability to read simple flavor texts. That would make me feel so dumb...
