: Actually, as much as I championed the theory of the
: Leveler balancing, the Myth II epilogue proved me
: wrong. The Leveler is a transient divinity seeking
: only chaos and destruction, to rule unchallenged over
: the unthinking dead and their blasted lands. It is
: fated that a hero will defeat him every thousand
: years, but he is also fated to return every thousand
: years, so it does stay balanced. But Connacht was not
: the Leveler, until he became Balor. Connacht was a
: good guy, a hero like Alric. Then the Leveler took him
: over and he started to kill things.
You're absolutely right, but when I hear the brief retelling of how Connacht arrived during the Wind Age, it seems odd that he was just a regular guy who happened to be a hero who would banish the dark from the earth for the time being. He "rose in the East" (something to that degree) and mysteriously vanished in Muirthemne, but returned hundreds of years later as Balor. I think there's more to him than just being a great hero who was taken over by the Leveler. What? I don't know, but he is shrowded in mystery. I think we'd have to wait and see what happens to Alric once he finally dies, then we'll be able to see for sure since we can't dig up the past anymore than Bungie allows us.
