He is sent on the mission by a general who promased a very unsavery charicter kerains life but could not just hand him over. So he made up this mission to get Kerain somewhere that he might get some protection from a more powerfull army.

Yeah, I did not originaly intend for the circomestances of the mission to be so complicated, but I also did not know the game was set 4 years after the war.
