The contest is solely for Solo Maps or series of Solo levels.

Your best bet is to go to the Mill & follow the links to the rules for the Contest. You can learn everything there as everyone else has.

My thoughts are that if the creation is not entirely yours it will probably detract greatly in the judges minds, but that is just my personal opinion.

Go to the Mill & make a decision for yourself.
