In Response To: Wyrd, Nyx and the dark gods (William Wallace)

: GURPS tells us that before the world existed, there were
: the dark gods. Note that this does not say that there
: were ONLY dark gods, but I assumed that was so, as it
: does not mention any normal gods. Now, are we to
: assume that these 'dark' gods are evil? GURPS says
: that they were also referred to as the old gods,
: presumably because they have been around for so long.
: Note also that they are dark gods, not Dark gods. The
: capital letter is used throughout the book when
: mentioning the forces of Dark compared to Light. So
: they are not neccesarily gods of the Dark alliegance.

I always presumed they were called 'dark gods' by the Wyrd-worshippers, and thought of in a similar way as Christians think of pagan gods. They aren't epi-evil like the Leveller or Satan, they're just the old, not-pure-as-light way, and hence "dark".

: GURPS then goes on to say that the world began with an
: epic battle between two gods, Nyx and Wyrd. So, seeing
: as though GURPS implies that there were only dark
: gods, both Nyx and Wyrd were dark, right? Wrong. GURPS
: and a Ghôl flavor text say that only the Ghôls knew
: the names of the dark gods, and seeing as though
: Forgall's bestiary mentions Nyx, as does Alric in his
: duel with Sinis, we can assume that Nyx was not a dark
: god. Also, a spider flavor text quotes a journeyman
: mentioning the name of Wyrd, so Wyrd is also not a
: dark god. This means that there were not only dark
: gods, there were others.

Actually, it says that only the Ghols REMEMBER the names of the Dark Gods. Others may have known them before. (On a side note, it is also said that the Ghols worship enormous pieces of unworked stone, like the godhead Balin destroyed at Myrgard; could it be that they think the stones ARE the Dark Gods?)

: So were Nyx and Wyrd (and other 'normal' gods) around
: before the world was created, along with the dark
: gods? Well, the world began with an epic battle
: between Nyx and Wyrd, but it also says that the lands
: were formed when Wyrd first awoke from the One Dream.
: It seems that Wyrd woke up, the world was made
: according to his vision, and then Nyx came long and
: started a fight with Wyrd. The intense fighting caused
: Wyrd's lovely new world to be damaged, a mark that we
: now call Tharsis, the Forge of the Trow.

Sounds right to me.

: Now why was it called this? Was it where Nyx made the
: Trow (firing them after forming them from clay) or was
: it where the Trow forged their weapons and other iron
: implements? If it was the former then it seems that
: Wyrd and Nyx fought each other directly, one-to-one.
: If it was the latter, then maybe these two gods fought
: each other with vast armies of creatures, Nyx with his
: Trow and Wyrd with another race. That would mean that
: these creatures caused Tharsis. The Trow win and begin
: to worship Nyx (because he created them, stupid
: GURPS!). But no! GURPS says that Nyx lost, so he
: probably did not have his Trow at this time. Wyrd
: wins, and THEN Nyx makes his Trow.

I think it is where Nyx forged the Trow. (Interestingly, there's an unused sound in The Forge that calls the thing Soulblighter stands on "the Anvil". Could this maybe be the mysterious Anvil of Culwyeh?).

And the rest of your conclusions I agree with.

: Now the dark gods get some real revenge, and break Wyrd's
: ultimate power into 49 pieces and scatter them about
: his world. The Dream pieces are marked by Rune Stones,
: but who put them there? Did the dark gods mark these
: spots in case they should ever need to recover the
: stones? Or did a race of creatures (probably long
: extinct now) detect the various Dream pieces as they
: landed and then place the Rune Stones to make their
: locations? Anyway, the Ghôls seem to have one, which
: connects them to the dark gods (who broke the Dream)
: whom they know the names of.

I imagine that the Dreams fell to earth like meteors, and their physical representation are the Runestones. Nobody put the Runestones there, they just exist wherever the Dreams are

: Haggis, cheese, bread, and fish pies.

Lutefisk and blodkarsk.
