Long Theory: Nyx and the Dark Gods

In Response To: Short Theory: Nyx and the Head (Milk Man)

: I was thinking about this before going to bead, and this
: idea hit me. Wyrd defeated Nyx in battle, Nyx became a
: bit inferior to him. The light and dark cycles seem to
: be a mutual agreement between The Leveller and Wyrd.

Why do you think this? Wyrd may be all but powerless right now; his One Dream was broken into 49 pieces that are scattered all over the world. The Leveller is described as "the god who created himself". We have no idea why the cycle is as it is; why the Leveller comes only once every thousand years (maybe he's bound to the comet?), etc. And I've got to wonder why Tharsis erupts every thousand years as well - seems Nyx may very well have something to do with maintainance of the cycle, not the destruction of them (since Nyx made Tharsis).

: Now if we accept Forrest's theory (I know I do!)

:-)

: the
: coming of balor marked a quirk in the Tierces-Connacht
: spirit alteration.

Actually, it wasn't his coming but his defeat. Balor was supposed to kill Alric, and then die himself in the process of securing a Dark victory; instead Alric killed him, and is still living 60+ years later. Plus, the comet was 50 years late.

(Note: I found more evidence for my theory. GURPS Myth, page 9, sidebar. "Most religions limit the potential for reincarnation to great heroes or villains, who tend to be alternate aspects of the same reincarnated soul").

: Now notice that this same year, a
: severed head is found and for no known reason, helps
: the light out, and then betrays them.

We don't actually know that he betrayed them; only that the Nine suspected he was betraying them (with good reason; though I think the armor really was out there in the desert, but Balor found it first), and that for some reason (most likely mind control) a bunch of people rose to defend him when the Nine turned against him.

: Could the head
: have Nyx's power behind it? Is he regaining the power
: and trying to screw The Leveller and Wyrd over?
: Perhaps trying to cause conflict between them? My
: sources say yes.

I somehow doubt it. There is a strong hinting that the Head is Wyrd's son Segoth, who was beheaded by the Dark Gods (because they thought he tricked them when he created the world - how, excactly, is unclear). I suspect that the Leveller has something to do with the Dark Gods, regularly ravaging the world to prevent anyone from ever assembling the One Dream and restoring Wyrd's power. The Head, being Wyrd's son, would obviously try to stop this. He claimed to be one of Connacht's closest advisors; perhaps he was, and convinced him to try to stop the cycle. But Connacht couldn't do enough. Maybe the Head also advised the hero who opposed Moagim, or taught Tireces how to immobilize the 2nd-Era Leveller with sorcery. He could have even been there talking to the first Great Hero at the dawn of the First Era.

Hrm. I've got an interesting theory. According to the sidebar on page 8 of GURPS Myth, before there was the world there were only the Dark Gods. The Ghols somehow remember them, though, and the Ghols obviously weren't around before the world. Or were they?

That same sidebar suggests that the lands beyond the known land of Myth don't really exist, because Wyrd couldn't see them. Later, on page 96 of GURPS, it is suggested that should the One Dream ever be reincorporated, an entirely new world would be created, incorporating all that Wyrd has learned since he first awoke from the One Dream.

Now, here's the theory. Long ago, there was just Joe Ordinary Planet with the Dark Gods ruling over it. Nyx may have been one of these old gods. The Ghols were one of many races who lived there and worshipped the Dark Gods. Then Wyrd woke up from the One Dream, in which he had a vision of a new world. But he only saw a part of it in his vision. He went about to create what he saw, on the old world, but the Dark Gods didn't want him messing with their planet. So Nyx and Wyrd got in a big fight, and in the process Wyrd somehow tricked the Dark Gods and managed to transform part of the planet into his dream-world.

Really pissed off, the Dark Gods beheaded Wyrd's son. Nyx spat (figuratively) on Wyrd's creation, creating Tharsis. In Tharsis, she made the Trow, to rule over Wyrd's stupid little world. Wyrd kept trying to make new races to live in his world, but they inevitably ran into the Trow and got KIKd to DETH. So Wyrd gave up for a while, and then, he created the Younger Races. These managed to survive under the shadow of the Trow, much like early mammals lived in the shadow of the dinosaurs. Eventually they even threatened the Trow, when the Oghres rebelled, the Human empires spread out wherever Trow weren't, and the Myrkridia were general bad-asses.

The Dark Gods, now really, REALLY pissed off, shattered the One Dream, and sent the Leveller to the world to make sure none of the Younger Races could reassemble it; for if they did, Wyrd would no doubt transform the ENTIRE planet into the entirity of the One Dream, leaving the Dark Gods with nothing to rule over.

And so Wyrd's son Segoth, the Head, helped various heroes over the ages defeat the Leveller and finally break the cycle. Now the One Dream can be assembled and a great new world created.
