>|iTwelve Jaguar Burning Moon, Outside Lancarfan|p
I don't think there's a "Moon" in the Old Heron Calendar. There's a post in the archives about Heron names and how they correspond almost perfectly to Mayan dates.
>Three thousand years have passed since first the Heron Banner was lifted.
It's only been 2431 years since the Cath Bruig Empire was founded (that it, Muirthemne burned under Balor's mystic fire in 2431 AE, and AE dates are since the founding of the Empire).
>On that day, millenia past, the last shamans of the Cath Bruig gave over their
>temples to the priests of Wyrd and took in exchange swords and armor. With
>Tierces the Great they broke the back of darkness in the land, their deathless
>bodies all that stood between humanity and endless night.
Firstly, there is no indication that the Herons were anything before they were Herons. They have always been the personal guard of the Emperor, as well as the elite fighting force (Marines, basically) in high wartimes. Secondly, Tireces defeated the dark some 570 years before the Cath Bruig were founded, though he did found the city of Llancarfan eight years later (in 562 HC).
>When Moagim came the Bright Century took their place in the lists. Their lines
>were never broken though fire engulfed the world.
What's the Bright Century?
>When the Wolf arose to bring in his new age, when the Trow were locked beneath
>their iron city, when the Tain was raised in the name of Connacht, the Guard
>was at his side and together they prevailed.
Actually, Connacht didn't get much of an army until after he defeated the Myrkridia (though the Smiths of Muirthemne did built him the Tain). But the Bruig were there when he defeated the Trow and when he fought the new Leveller ("Moagim Reborn" some called him) in the West.
>Through comet's rage and storm's fury, through steel and iron and axe and
>sword the honor of the Heron Banner was ne'er stained. Through all yesterday's
>battles the Guard proved unimpeachable and indomitable.
>
>Today Muirthemne is burning.
That is a great bit of writing there. I love it!
>Was he real--or just a phantasm of our own guilt? We cannot know the answer.
>Yet Eight Coyote Comet, the last of our Elders, says we must lay any more such
>ghosts to rest. By force, if necessary.
I don't think there's a Comet in the Heron calendar. And the Herons have Masters (teachers), not Elders.
