This is a wild idea but it could happen.
What if the Shade we see in Seven Gates is the reincarnated body of Mazzerin, but the Faceless man is Mazzerins new Life brought about via the Extra Lives dream?
It could be possible that he had his spell ready the moment he knew he would die, and so tranfered his soul to the new body or what ever device they use to make the exchange, as soon as his dreams and strength ran out.
The Watcher might have made Mazzerin a shade as soon as the dust settled and so traped just the right amount of power in the body for it to become a powerfull shade, while the new mazzerin was somewhat weakend by the whole prosese and there -for was not the most powerfull of the Fallen.
Ok, thats it. Dont bother telling me how crazy that sounds because I have doubed it so.
