In Response To: Down with GURPS! (Ares™)

: Milk Man informs me that GURPS contradicts my story for
: Legend of Gor-Ash in one minor detail: According to
: GURPS, the fir'Bolg live in the northern ermine and
: the bre'Unor live in the south.

: This is OBVIOUSLY wrong.

: The fir'Bolg have had FAR more contact with humans than
: have the bre'Unor. Human settlements such as avons
: grove are all around the southern Ermine, while only
: the Deep Mire and such border the north. The north
: seems like a far more secretive place.

I donknow, in "Through the Ermine" the pregame pics showed a fir'bolg guide with a number of your party.

It could be that the free citys never could come to a real peace with the Fir'bolg, and so the respective sides kept their distence in the north untill soulblighter came back.

: On top of this, Through the Ermine, which took place in
: the north (north of the Meander River) was clearly in
: bre'Unor lands - there was a freakin' bre'Unor temple!
: This on top of everythin else proves that bre inhabit
: the north, and logically, fir'Bolg, the south.

The Fir'bolg occupie the entire length of the Ermin. As evendence I would point to the above example of the Fir'bolg guides in "Through the Ermine".

I think the bre'unor have to keep moving most of the time to avoid geting boged down into a real war with the Humans or Fir'bolg. I admit however that they may be more settled in the north or central regons of the forrest.

: I say we rebel and burn all our copies of GURPS. YOu know
: it was written by three obsessive compulsive dorks
: hired by Bungie who played through Myth like twice who
: felt a need to specify everything. They made up all
: this arbitrary CRAP that is now limiting mapmakers
: like me.

Most of us agree that the GURPS is flawed, majory in some areas. I dont think that it can realy limit any map makeing group that thinks for its self. It certenly should not limit you or Creation as you are in my humble oppinon the best, most creative map makeing group in the Myth communaty.

If anything the GURPS book could open dozens of oppertunatys for maps and storys. Take the conflict bettwean the Bre'unar and the Fir'bolg. GURPS said nothing of what it is about or when it started. You could make a set of maps detailing the begining of the conflict. It could be cast in a number of ways, such as (if you beleave the Bre'unor where the original inhabatents of the Forrest) the great tribes of Bre'unor warriors clashing with the invading Fir'bolg from the south. This alone could set up other possibilatys. The flight of the Fir'bolg from their ansestrial home on the Plain of Scales. You could exspain away the old annanimaty bettwean fir'bolg and human in this way.

All I am saying is that you should take the GURPS with a grain of salt when it comes to map makeing. It is vary general to the point of leaving massave holes for us to fill; we should thank them for this, becouls if they had all the answers what would be the point of the Asylum?

Good to have you back with us Ares=)
