: True, although if anyone *did* venture there it would
: surely be the arrogant and fearless Myrmidons.
: But there's a lot of space between Gower and the northern

: were "Northern tribesmen" at that time, so
: I'd think that they probably lived north of Gower; as
: they moved south with Balor's armies the Berserks
: would become their "Northern kin" by virtue
: of the changing geographical relationship.

Sorry for not joining in the debate, but I was away all weekend. Anyway, the justification for my chracter's story was this:
Following the GURPS timeline, it says that "By 2181 A.E. Balor - the latest Leveller - thrived in the east, recruiting and creating his evil hordes. Balor enticed the Myrmidons (see pp. 52-53) - once proud human warriors - into volunteering for the grisly undead that drives them mad to this day." - GURPS Myth p. 20
So we understand that Balor thrived in the east... recruiting and creating his evil hordes. We do not know exactly where in the east he was, but based on where Balor originated, it would seem that Gower or the lands east of Muirthemne would be a safe bet. I also based my character's birthdate around this number, choosing the age of 18 for enrollment into such an elite force. Regardless of if they only except kinsmen or if it is an open enrollment, my character was accepted into their faction, be it by race, skill or both.
Another important reference is found in GURPS Myth p. 52, where it states: "Centuries ago, all the might of the Dark stood powerless before the Light's Mymidons, warriors of vast skill . . . and vaster pride. <paragraph break> Unable to beat them, the Dark lord Balor enticed them to join him. He offered them immortality in exchange for their services. It seems unlikely that the Myrmidons - who spent the eve of battle with a mirror rather than a bedroll - understood all the terms of the pact they had struck."
Using this information in conjunction with the previous exceprt, it seems that Balor was still gaining his army of fallen. He possessed the knowledge and magic to reanimate the dead, even to the extent that he coud change a willing living subject to the Dark and the undead. I doubt he had freed the Watcher by this time given his current position, but I would be sure that he would have gathered a few of the Fallen Lords to join his cause by now.
Also of note is the pact struck between the Myrmidons and Balor. It says that the Myrmidons probably didn't understand their agreement in full, so my story demonstrates how this could have been acheived. The effects were probably not immediate, so given time the skin and tissue would die, leaving only the what we see today intact.
The rest of the story follows a good general account of the war, given that we know the Heron Guard freed Bagrada by forcing the Myrmidons to retreat. We also know that during this time Muirthmne fell and its Emporer was killed so my story follows this outline. Since the Myrmidons did not return in Myth II, I gave them a believable course of action and had them return to their homelands in the east.
Given that no one has had contact or reported of the Myrmidons in the time since the fall of Balor, we know that they are no where in the Province or the Cath Bruig Empire. So they are probablt near Gower, Avernus, or the Blind Steppes. I decided to give them the hometown of Stöng, since it was desroyed by Soulblighter with such ferocity that it no longer appears on any map. This would seem believeable considering that the Myrmidons were not their to protect their homelands.
These are just some of the facts that I used to base my character's history upon. I know that they are speculation in some cases, but given that little to no solid evidence can conflict with them, I would consider it a fun and exciting story on which to base such an unusual character.
Sincerely,
Pimpy™
