: I think that was his point. A Ghol is just like a Human,
: except it's shaped a little differently and has social
: stigmas.
: Which should make for some very interesting character
: interactions! A good guy who other people tolerate but
: mistrust because of his race. Saying you couldn't be a
: member of a stigma'd race would be like some RPGer in
: the 50s saying that a black character couldn't
: partipate in the RPG because he's got social stigmas
: against him. But that's makes for an interesting
: character! Particularly if you have a triangle-type
: arrangement, where one person likes the stigma'd one
: and another hates him, but the two people are
: otherwise best of friends. It put strains on the
: relationship, and makes interesting plays on emotion.

Mentioning a black character is quite appropriate, since when I created Ieuan I was thinking of all those movies like "They Call Me Mr. Tibbs", where a black police officer is trying to solve a crime in a white world. Ieuan's a Legionnaire, so ordinary Mythworlders *have* to talk to him. But they're not going to do him any favors and he'll always have to do his job better than a human would in order to get the same respect. Think of the X-Men, "struggling to protect a world that fears and hates them." It's an old theme but, I think, still an engaging one.

: I agree about not having a whole lot of mages. That's why
: I designed my character the way he is - I wanted a
: big, important, powerfull character, but I didn't want
: to dominate the whole campaign and crush resistance
: effortlessly. So I made him a wandering scholar, an
: earthy man who refuses to use powerfull magics, even
: though he seeks them out simply to know them. I like
: Silicon's character too, because he's not just another
: human, but he's not a big powerfull warlock or
: anything. He's disadvantaged, really, though he's got
: the combat skillz to counter the social disadvantage.

And I heartily approve of Forrest's guy (you knew I had to say that :). The usual problems with mages--it's hard for ordinary NPCs to interact with a guy in a huge black cape, carrying a staff with a dragon's head on the end, who lobs fireballs at pigeons when he gets bored--are largely fixed by Archimedes. Anyone can talk to a pleasant, monkish-looking guy in walking shoes, and as long as he refuses to use his earth-shattering spells it doesn't screw up gameplay.

: (Psst, Silicon, care to drop any hints as to Redeemer's
: big huge secret? Or at least to what his birthmark is
: of?)

Two concentric circles, plus some other stuff? C'mon! It shouldn't be *that* hard to figure out. Here's a hint--when you play an action or adventure or street-fighting game, how do you tell which characters and weapons were designed for beginners, and which for expert gamers?

Maybe we should synchronize our times when we can work on the eRPG, so that we can be in a group together. The Asylumers could split up into a number of subgroups, each of which submits its emailed PC commands at different times.
