: What's wrong with strange creatures? If they're not Trow
: or Forest Giants or something, they're no more
: powerful than ordinary humans.
You're not trying to be powerful! An RPG isn't a competitive game where you try and win, the idea is to have fun exploring the world and communicating/interacting with other people in that world via the GM!
: How does it damage
: gameplay if someone decides to be a spider or
: something?
A) Spiders cannot communicate with other ppl well, taking away part of the point of an RPG.
B) Other stranger creatures than can communicate (Ghols, Mauls) will not normally get on with other people well.
: I mean, it's your game; I'm just curious.
: If you want to do some "trial runs" first in
: which everyone's humanoid, just to make it simpler and
: easier to iron out the kinks in the game, I can make
: another character.

I don't mind if there are a couple of non-humans/dorfs/fir'bolg/northmen such as ghols, mauls or trow. But add to that a whole load of mages and there's not much interaction thats gonna happen between the players and the NPC's.
