: The beginning of Myth I is 17 years into the War in the
: West, not to mention all the decades before the Fallen
: crossed the Cloudspine. So Alric (called Caliban in
: the betas) had plenty of time to force a truce.
I am not certen that it was Alric that would have made the truce with the
Fir'bolg. This is becoules he simply could not have been in power before the
Fallen overran the easten lands. If you remember what the journal writer said
in the 5th mission in myth tfl, about the tunnel they were to escape from?
"Moriack(or however you spell it)was prince regent here duing king Alrics
adalesence, and knows of a tunnul that the royle famly used to escape when
soulblighter leveled the city ten years ago." Sence Moriack(?) could not have
been terribly old, and nor could Alric if he is still alive in 60 years, which
he is, it stands to reson that Alric took the throne after his father died,
probobly in the sack of covenent. Sence only a king could offisaly make a
truce with an enemy, I sugest that Caliban was the king of The provence duing
the latter stages of the wolf age, and possibly Alrics father. If this is
correct, it would mean that, as forest pointed out, he would have had time to
get a truce togeter.
Well thats what I think, let me know if you agree or not.
thanks,

: Well, I remain ignorant as to the extent of control the
: spirits of the Hero and Leveler have over their
: "hosts" (assuming that "the
: Leveler" and "the Hero" just aren't
: simple labels). For instance, during the War, did
: Alric remain "Alric", and not just the Hero
: incarnate, impersonating the avatar? Or some
: combination of both, with Alric being led like a dog
: to whatever destiny the Hero/Leveler balance has in
: store...? Whatever the case, I don't really see Alric
: just filling the role given to him in the Big Leveler
: Talk, without some kind of outside influence. ;)
: As for Alric crowning himself emporer, yes, I agree, this
: does seem rather insolent (and in context with the
: Myth storyline, insolence seems to hint at evil). But
: which of the two spirits compels him to do this?
: Obviously not the Hero; the Leveler has been toppled,
: which is the Hero's purpose, no? And the Leveler only
: destroys, and thus has no interest with being
: "emporer." Just Alric's human(?) nature
: compelling him to total power? On a similar note, I've
: always been curious about the gray area between the
: Hero and the Leveler, like, what the hell happens,
: when does the leveler take over, and the rest. Heh,
: doesn't look like I'll say anything particularly
: coherent and meaningful, myself. But. Whatever.
: My order for Myth II hasn't gone through yet, so I
: haven't had the pleasure of playing it; they've
: replaced SB's voice? Shitty. I liked SB's voice.
I was also a bit shocked when Alric claimed himself as emperor, but after
thinking it over, he might have done it to inspire the journeyman back to
their heron guard state.

For me, it doesn't seem strange to proclaim yourself emperor. There is a big
political vaccuum. Everyone of importance except Alric was dead. Alric was
already king of the southern providences before the great war and he was the
only real power figure for the light after the war. So the only next logical
thing to do is to become political leader as well as military leader. What did
you expect, him to step down and create a democratic republic?

Heron guards and Journey men are deathless, so why can't Alric be that aswell.
And if he was suppose to become the Leveler he had to live another 940 years
(read that somewhere). Some races in fantasy tales do live longer than an
ordinary human.

MESSAGE: (#303) Clarifacation on Leveler

I'd just like to point out that Its not always the hero from the previous era
that becomes the leveler. (look at epilogue). So becareful not to assume
things like Alric will be the next leveler. Also, This is more of a question,
but is Balor/Moagim/etc. being controlled by the leveller, or is he more of a
Soulblighter/Watcher type, who is working for the leveler? And for that
matter, does the leveller just come and take over, or does the Hero allow the
leveler to control/rule him?
