Actually, it's said that the Dwarves "collapsed the barbican, entombing ten thousand of their numbers behind as many tons of rock". It's typically been assumed that "their numbers" reffers to Dwarves, but someone long ago pointed out that it could mean Ghols - that Stoneheim wasn't buried, only a part of it was collapsed in an effort to stop the Ghol invasion. But it would have failed, and as GURPS says the Ghols now inhabit Stoneheim, so it would seem that the Dwarves did fail. But they recaptured Myrgard, at least.
