Not neccesarily. We see him digging in *a* forest, but there's lots of forests. Like Ruewood in the Untamed Lands, for example. (See? Chimera did come in handy for once!)

But the counter-point to that, which Charon probably made and I'm backing, is that Soulblighter found the Tain all by himself, so Alric could find an Eblis stone all by himself. Connacht had all those resources and found a bunch of artifacts - one person with a little magical help could easily find one artifact.
