: achieved total victory, which is pretty much when
: Balor was killed. It also says that none of the Dark
: champions who sought to rule lived to achieve their
: goal. Killing the Leveller is the last gasp of the
: Light before the Dark Age sets in.
But Balor didn't achieve total victory, as is obvious in the Mythworld today. Not only didn't he kill Alric, but there were plenty of civilians to kill, too.
: This makes sense to me...throughout each pre-Dark Age
: Great War the Light's military power is steadily
: waning, so if the Leveller's going to be killed, it's
: going to be fairly early on, when the good guys still
: have an army or two. It's not like a small team of
: survivors could have stormed Moagim's fortress,
: dragged him out, and tied him to wild horses without
: the Dark's massive, victorious army interfering.
That's exactly what GURPS makes it sound like happened. ANything less wouldn't be total victory, and what was left of the light would be able to kill off the leaderless dark. Victory must at least involve killing the other side's hero.
