Actually, according to the postgame pic on "The Last Battle," he took the helmet off the head to show it to everyone. He must have put it back on before he gave it to the Legionnaires to get rid of. Maybe the dwarves couldn't throw it well without using the horns as handles, or something. (I know, this is unnecessary since you weren't serious anyway...)
